5AM is a collective of longstanding music industry visionaries, dedicated to managing, developing and promoting compelling new acts making music in a myriad of styles. United around the idea that good music is worth investing in, we focus on finding dynamic artists who captivate us and give them the tools to grow creatively and connect with their respective audiences.
With years of experience in A&R at Interscope Records and tenure as a music coordinator on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, founder and president Samson Shulman is a veteran of the music industry. Declining an opportunity to go to law school, he moved to L.A. with the hope of working in A&R. A newbie dreamer with no industry contacts, he spent the better part of the last decade working his way up from Interscope intern to a skilled A&R man and manager. He worked on the development of very early Lady Gaga music, Gwen Stefani, and M.IA among others. Drawing on his knowledge of the business and connections with producers and industry professionals, Samson offers our artists opportunities to work with luminaries of the trade. We've coupled artists with the likes of indie super-producer Ben Allen (Gnarls Barkley, Animal Collective), who crafted Charlotte alt-rock five-piece Flagship's debut LP. Grammy-nominated Zach Heiligman (Foster the People) with whom Winnipeg's Lost Weekend have recorded their self-titled debut EP. Wax has worked with Justice League (Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, T.I) and Utah indie rock darlings, The Moth & The Flame, who were produced by top indie producer Peter Katis (The National, Interpol). Los Angeles rock trio Beware of Darkness, linked with Dave Sardy (The Killers, LCD Soundsystem, Wolfmother) to executive produce their critically acclaimed debut album "Orthodox."
We've formed strategic partnerships within the music industry to help further realize our artist's goals. Launching a joint-venture partnership with Atom Factory Music Licensing (licensing division of Lady Gaga's management company), with whom Samson works to generate deals and placements for 5AM/Atom Factory artists in film and television. In addition, 5AM is also engaged in consulting for Warner Music Group in the pop and urban realm. Together with the rest of the writers, graphic designers and industry sophisticates who comprise 5AM collective, we share a passion for helping musicians from all over the sonic spectrum flourish.
With an expertise developed over many years in the music industry, a shared commitment to the well being of our artists and the gumption to do it our own way, we have built a business where everyone prospers.
